JSAT was formed in 1993 by the merger of Japan Communications Satellite Co (JCSAT, which operated the first two JCSAT satellites) and Satellite Japan Corp (SAJAC). JSAT is owned by Itochu Corp , Mitsui & Co , Nissho Iwai Co and Sumitomo Corp. NTT should join in.

JSAT should be acquired by Sky Perfect Communications Inc in early 2007.
