Program: Eros
Remote sensing satellite program operated by West Indian Space Ltd., a
US-Israeli joint-venture. Partners include Core Software Technology (US),
Israel Aircraft Industries IAI (state-owned by Israel) and El-Op Electro-Optic
Industries (Israel). The company announced it would issue bonds via a private
placement that would help finance the US$250 million they need to launch and
operate their first three satellites.
First satellite was planned in late 1999. WIS planed to launch the second
satellite by September 2000 and the third about nine months later.
Subsequently, two satellites would be launched each year, indefinitely
depending on demand, with the first eight deployed by 2004. A total of 8
satellites are planned. 3 launches have been reserved on
Start 1.
The company changed named to ImageSat International.
