Iridium Next's payload

Primary frequencies:
- service links in the 1617.775-1626.5 MHz (space-to-Earth, Earth-to-space) frequency band;
- feeder downlinks and telemetry and tracking functions in the 19.4-19.6 GHz (space-to-Earth) frequency band;
- feeder uplinks and tracking and command functions in the 29.1-29.3 GHz (Earth-to-space) frequency band;
- inter-satellite links in the 23.18-23.38 GHz frequency band.

The new system would also receive Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast signals on a center frequency of 1090 MHz and relay information concerning those signals to other satellites in the 23.18-23.38 GHz frequency band and to the ground in the 19.4-19.6 GHz frequency band.

Those satellite will carry a secondary payload named ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast) built by ITT Exelis. The ADS-B 1090 MHz Extended Squitter (ES) receivers will complement ground-based air navigation systems currently in use by relaying, in near-real time, position and status information of aircraft flying over oceans, poles and remote regions to air traffic controllers on the ground.

Will carry AIS modules for Aireon LLC (built by Harris on the AppStar platform) as hosted payloads.

The Satellite Time and Location (STL) is a technology to supplement or replace te GPS signals to Iridium-connected small devices.
