Asiasat 2

Also called Amos 5i

General

Designation 23723 / 95064A
Launch date 28 Nov 1995 at 11:30 UT
Country of origin China
Mission Telecommunications
Geostationary orbit see below
Launch vehicle Long March 2E

Second stage orbit: 185 km x 309 km x 28° Then the Chinese perigee kick motor SPTM-17 (second flight) lifted Asiasat to 222 x 35039 km x 25.6° and the liquid apogee motor (a Leros-class dual mode liquid apogee engine built by Royal Ordnance plc, England) then circularized the orbit.

Cost: $200 million

Amos 5i provides Pan-African C-band and Middle-East + North Africa Ku-band coverage. The satellite is running out of fuel and should reach EOL in early 2011.
