GE American Communications Inc. announced it will launch a international video programming satellite service on this bird aimed at the Indian sub-continent. The news programming will be in English and Hindi. Also GE Americom has a long-term agreement for five C-band and two Ku-band transponders.

Had a failure on 7 May 1999. Service has restored within hours.
