This satellite was colocated with Galaxy 3R. It's antennas cover a larger area than the Galaxy 3R satellite, especially over the Caribbean and Central America.

Tested from 79 deg W. Went inclined in Dec 2002.

Battery problems were reported. 3 of the 4 XIPS thrusters were announced as failed in sep 2000. Insurance paid $93 million. This will lead the satellite to run out of fuel in 2002. It should be replaced by Galaxy 3C as soon as possible.

End of life


Out of service Feb 2004
Cause Technical problems. Moved to the junk orbit.
