IRS 1D

General

Designation 24971 / 97057A
Launch date 29 Sep 1997
Country of origin India
Mission Remote sensing
Perigee/Apogee 736/825 km (sunsynchronous, descending node: 10:30)
Inclination 98.6°
Period 101.35 min (revisit: 5 days)
Launch vehicle PSLV #4
Mass at launch 1200 kg

Is a clone of IRS 1C with a few minor improvements. It will server as in-orbit replacement for IRS 1C.

Was launched in a bad orbit: 300 x 823 km. The correction to the initial orbit would have consumed too much fuel so the satellite was placed in an elliptical sunsynchronous orbit. The manoeuvres consumed about 67 kg of its fuel, leaving slightly over 16 kg.
