The APT system failed in Sep 2001 (once the antenna connection was switched off, it couldn't be correctly re-connected after). Since 9 Oct 2001, the HRPT frequency was changed at 1698 MHz and is operating at full power.

On 25 Nov 2015 debris were detected, raising the fear of an in-orbit breakup. There was an explosion and over 130 debris found.
