NSS 8
Contract included options for up to 2 other satellites. In Jan 2005, the
contract was amended so that the payment takes place fractionnaly after the
launch and subject to performance of the satellite during its contractual
design life. This amendement pushes back the delivery deadline. New Skies will
receive refunds from construction payments milestones. Thanks to this new
contract, New Skies wont insure the in-orbit life of the satellite.
The launch failure will impact Boeing, as they were to deliver the satellite in
orbit. The satellite was insured for $200 million, and the launcher for $56
million.
