Also called Jason CS, Copernicus Sentinel 6A, Michael Freilich
High precision measurements of ocean surface topography. Along with measuring
global sea level rise and ocean circulation, the satellite will record vertical
profiles of atmospheric temperature and humidity.
It's a partnership between NASA, the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration (NOAA), the European Space Agency, and the European Organisation
for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT). Eumetsat controls
the satellite. Should become operational in late 2021 after calibration.
Satellite worth EUR 177 million. Launch cost $97 million
