DRTS W
Also called Kodama
Cost: $268 million. Became operational on 10 Jan 2003.
The satellite failed to enter GTO right after launch because of a failure of
the bipropellant apogee engine; the third firing was incomplete. It reached GEO
a few days later.
The relay payload is working, was able to relay realtime data from
Adeos 2.
In Nov 2006
Envisat 1
managed to downlink through it.
Went into safe mode on 28 Oct 2003 after a large solar storm.
Went inclined in Jan 2011. Replaced by

in late 2020.
